I was listing my favorites the other day in yet another social networking forum. Satisfied, I went through my work again. I had listed my favorite Cricketer, my favorite tennis player, pop star, rock star et cetera. I always cheered for Agassi, not Sampras. Rafael Nadal, not Fedrer. Lara, not Sachin. Asha, not Lata. Tom, not Jerry. I liked Hector more than Achilles.
Even when I saw the Mahabharata, I found out that I was fascinated by Karna not Arjuna. The more I delved into it, the more I realized that it was a consistent pattern. Of not idolizing the best.Of cheering the ones who finish second. But aspire to be the first. The burning ambition to be the number one brings out the best in everyone.
